School Work

From Sculpture

The first thing we did in art was simply draw in the painting studio there is a group of face sculpture things, we had various tasks timed drawings were first then we moved onto different medias, because this year is the largest A-Level group in years we were split into two half with the sculptures and the other half working from a teacher.

There is no simple big adjustment there are a few new things I have struggled to get used to, first of all working quickly, my first task was 15 minutes draw now, the second one is working vertically, I have never actually worked on a vertical surface and this slowed me down more. These among more were my main problems, fortunatly I am adapting very quickly and these things are not so much of a hindrance any more.

These are the profits of my first week I did much more but it is nothing special, the photo and drawing are at different angles but I'm sure you can use your imagination. In fact the two are very far off.

It's nice but I took way to long and that's all I can say about this one.

    Painting?

Now that the introductory week is done we are moving into more focused areas I am in painting now there is print making and sculpture and we spend a week in each before picking our favourite area for the final project.

First off you will thing Painting? and yes the only painting to be seen in these first two is a watercolour wash, this is a bit more like preparation after a visit to the national portrait gallery we will start painting and I believe work our way up ending the fourth week with oils.

This is one of my brother playing a game clearly, this photo captures the not listening focused nod and say yes Jon with some added lighting to give the impression of a darker room and some more light from the screen.

You can see it is not an exact representation the proportions are not right because I neglected looking vertically untill it was to late to change it you can easily see the very bulbous chin/jaw/neck area, I did start on a background but realised it would take to long so I got his shirt right and introduced the wash. Overall this is a success and I really enjoyed working on it.

This one was chalk pastel, I have never really given it much chance and doing his it grew on me quickly, I instantly decided to make this one quick as the entire year was behind at this point, I to my teachers sketchy demo to heart, and as all of my teachers before me I am not a fan of smudging so you wont find any here.

This one was mainly practice with lighting to capture the dramatic image, because of the speed I did this in it is defiantly a stand back example, I could have varied my strokes a bit as this looks quite mono directional, I dont know what effect it gives but I am not a fan.

This was very fun to do and I suppose it looks ok but I don't think it's my best by any stretch I will defiantly give chalk pastels another go with a bit more technique when I have time.
